Student Experience

Jennifer McCleary, Director, Student Experience – Career and Professional Development 

Key Responsibilities

Lead DeGroote’s Student Experience team to deliver an exceptional transformative experience through effective services and programming from; Recruiting, Admissions, Academic support, International Exchange and Career and Professional Development activities.  The Academic teams for BCom and Specialized Grad Programs along with the Career and Professional Development (CPD) make up our Student Experience team at both the Ron Joyce Centre (MBA) and main campus (BCom and Grad).

Additional duties include:

Engage in DeGroote’s leadership forums to align Student Experience activities to the school’s strategic plan and vision.  Liaise with the DeGroote Commerce Society, MBAA and student club leaders to foster a collaborative community of young professionals.

 

Megan Carvalho, Associate, MBA Student Experience 

Key Responsibilities

Provide administrative support to the Student Experience team, not limited to advising MBA students on non-academic issues; coordinating mid-term and final exam processes, and administering and implementing changes to websites including the RJC Shuttle.

 

Meagan Keane, Communications Specialist

Key Responsibilities

Support the MBA, Career and Professional Development (CPD) and BCom teams with their communications needs, including but limited to, advertising, events, reviewing, writing and editing web content and promoting student experience initiatives.

Additional duties include:
Work on both the BCom and MBA Bulletin, support internal events, edit websites and web pages and provide general communication support to the Student Experience team.

MBA Academic Team

Lisa Barty, Manager

Key Responsibilities

Manage the team responsible for MBA recruitment, admissions and in-course advising.

Additional duties include:
Provide support to the program development committee and GDPC, liaise with the School of Graduate Studies, review academic student issues as needed.

 

Maddy Burley, Academic Advisor

Key Responsibilities

Support MBA students with all academic matters including course selection, specializations, performance concerns and clarify/communicate policies and procedures.

Additional duties include:
Responsible for the MBA course timetable, providing enrollment numbers and liaising with multiple departments throughout the university.

 

Rita Chen, Recruitment and Admissions Manager

Key Responsibilities

Recruit the best and brightest students to our MBA program. Attend and answer questions at graduate school events, MBA Fairs, information sessions, one-on-one and phone appointments, and answer email inquiries.

Additional duties include:
Manage Pre-MBA program planning for incoming International students, deliver webinars to support applicants, participate in admission interviews, manage CRM contact database, follow-up on started applications and admission offers, help facilitate drop-in and in person appointments.

 

Carolyn Colwell, Academic Advisor

Key Responsibilities

Support MBA students with all academic matters including course selection, specializations, performance concerns and clarify/communicate policies and procedures.

Additional duties include:
Assist with communications including website, calendar, weekly bulletin posts etc.

 

Kerry Anne-Donovan, MBA Admissions Co-ordinator

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for coordinating the admissions process for programs within the department. Reviews and summarizes applicant files for committee acceptance decisions. Provides program information and general assistance to prospective students and applicants.

 

Varda Khan, Graduate Recruitment and Retention Officer 

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the development and implementation of systems and processes that support all MBA programs, from prospect management and admissions, through to in-course activities.  This role focuses on data collection and analysis supporting the recruitment and admissions process helping the MBA team make data-driven decisions.

 

Melanie Pulling, MBA Program Officer

Key Responsibilities

The MBA Program Officer ensures the successful development and implementation of activities that support the unique academic program design of the MBA program. Plans and coordinates all Orientation and Foundations activities, as well as experiential learning opportunities. Responsible for supporting faculty, staff and students by coordinating all aspects of the MBA program from curriculum development through to program implementation and evaluation. Designs, implements and analyses data required for the Faculty’s accreditation process. Advises in-course students on program options and policies, ensuring a positive student experience enhanced brand reputation of the program.

 

Ryan Shoot, Admissions Officer

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for evaluating both international and domestic candidates to determine eligibility into the MBA program, making and communicating admission decisions and admitting successful applicants.  Inform and advise applicants of the application process, procedures, academic and program requirements, program suitability and potential eligibility for admission to the program.

Additional duties include:

Oversee Kira online video application platform for the MBA program. Manage transfer credit assessments and applicant pre-assessments. Interview potential candidates for admission.

 

Matt Vonk, Recruitment and Admissions Manager

Key Responsibilities

Recruit the best and brightest students to our MBA program. Attend and answer questions at graduate school events, MBA Fairs, information sessions, one-on-one and phone appointments, and answer email inquiries.

Additional duties include:

Career and Professional Development, MBA

Cynthia Bishop, Manager

Key Responsibilities

Manager and lead a team of career professionals dedicated to supporting MBA, MFin, MSc in eHealth and BCom students in achieving their career goals. Create a strategic direction for Ontario’s largest Commerce internship program and first MBA co-op program and work with senior academic leaders from multiple programs to set strategic objectives for the CPD team in support of DeGroote’s strategic plan. Collaborate with faculty and senior leadership to redesign MBA curriculum to better prepare students for career success through the integration of professional skills development and experiential learning within curriculum.

 

TBD, Manager, Employer Development

Key Responsibilities

Develop strategic employer development plans ensuring employment objectives and target demographics are optimized. Analyze Co-op employment data to determine lost business opportunities and developed recruitment strategies targeting both internal and external stakeholders. Conduct interviews and focus groups with students and employers to study the effectiveness of employment programs and initiatives. Research, identify, implement and evaluate social media and marketing initiatives that augment existing recruitment programs for students. Partner with employers to create customized on-campus recruitment events

 

Jacquie Gomes, Relationship Manager

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the MBA students through career coaching and professional development activities, designing and delivering innovative workshops and activities to enhance students’ employability skills and provide individual coaching services and guidance in developing self-marketing and branding materials including, job search strategies, resume critiques and preparation of cover letters to MBA students, helping to maximize their brand to employer partners.  Engage with our employer partners and alumni to build and maintain relationships and recruitment opportunities on behalf of the school.  Conduct annual admission recruitment interviews for MBA co-op applicants, assessing their candidacy for the program.

Pamela Lauren, Associate, Recruitment and Events, MBA

Key Responsibilities

Co-ordinate MBA Co-op opportunities in the OSCARPlus system by posting jobs, scheduling interviews, liaising with employers, and completing the Rank/Match process each term. Provide information to students and employers regarding the Co-op program structure and process.

Additional duties include:
OSCARPlus site administrator for DeGroote. Provide administrative support to the Career and Professional Development (MBA) team; plan and co-ordinate a variety of student and employer offerings, including the annual MBA/BCom/MFin Mock Interview Night and the MBA Graduate Directory resume book.
