Specializations
Students can take a wide variety of elective courses during the MBA program, or they can concentrate on courses in a specific academic area and earn a specialization (referred to as a “plan” in Mosaic). All students (with the exception of students in the MBA Accelerated Program) must ensure they complete SGS101, SGS201, all required level two courses, P700 and P720.
Requirements
All students are required to complete two second year MBA courses, P700 and P720.
Students also need to satisfy course requirements for their specific specialization. Descriptions and requirements for each of the specializations (and the general MBA option) are linked below.
- General MBA
- Accounting and Financial Management Services
- This option will be discontinued effective September 2024.
- Business Analytics
- Finance
- Health Services Management
- Strategic Marketing
- Strategic Business Valuation
Declaring Your Specialization
MBA Full-time and MBA with Co-op students will meet with an Academic Advisor in academic term two, to formally declare their specialization (plan). Students admitted into the Accelerated program are required to declare a specialization (plan) in term one.
Students can declare (or change) their specialization by submitting an eform on McMaster’s Mosaic system.
Student’s academic plan will be updated once their request is approved by the MBA Academic Advising team.
An Academic Advisor will review student records before graduation to make sure all the specialization requirements are met. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they complete the courses required for their specialization.
Exception: Before a student can register for the Health Services Management specialization, an Academic Advisor needs to ensure they meet additional requirements. Contact the Academic Advisors if you are interested in this specialization.
