What are your top 2 industries: Retail and Manufacturing

What made you pursue an MBA: I chose to purse an MBA because after studying Psychology and Neuroscience, I knew I didn’t want to pursue a career in science. I worked a summer Admin and Finance job throughout undergrad which was my first exposure to business. After my third summer at this job, I knew that I wanted to study business and an MBA felt like the perfect fit for my path.

Why did you choose DeGroote: I loved that DeGroote not only accepted but was looking for candidates that didn’t have a traditional academic background in business. I felt that this diversity would allow me to learn not only from my professors but also from my peers, as we all have been taught to think in various ways depending on our educational background. This was a driving factor for my decision to study at DeGroote.

What has been your favourite part about the MBA: The people I’ve met are my favourite part of the MBA experience. The shared experiences within each cohort brings people together and has taught me that I don’t have to go through anything alone because there is certainly someone in the RJC who is experiencing something similar. Whether that be stress for a midterm, group troubles, or feeling burnt out.

What is one quick tip you have for a first-year MBA student: Talk to as many people as you can, not just networking with alumni but also your peers. They are the people who are going to be beside you throughout this program and being able to rely on one another makes the experience more worthwhile.

What has been your favourite course at DeGroote, and why: M734 Strategic Marketing Analysis was my favourite course so far at DeGroote. Majority of the course was a simulation that we played weekly and at the end of the semester we presented our strategy to the class. I had a lot of fun with the simulation, it was a great break from some of my more intense classes, but I also feel like I learned a lot about what goes into producing and sustaining competitive advantage in a saturated market.

What I wish I knew on Day 1: 9/10 people are just as nervous as you are, take a deep breath and talk to someone, they might turn out to be one of your best friends.

What is one of your favourite weekend activities: 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. unlimited laser tag

Who is your favourite author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

What is your favourite TV show: New Girl
