What made you pursue an MBA: If you had asked me ten years ago where I saw my career heading, I wouldn’t have guessed event and project management. I started in law but quickly realised what energised me most was bringing people together, managing high-stakes initiatives, and creating something bigger than myself. That realisation led me to a career shift, where I spent eight years leading complex projects, solving problems on the fly, and ensuring seamless execution in high-pressure environments. I decided to pursue an MBA to marry all those experiences, find new ways to challenge myself and relaunch my career in senior management.
Why did you choose DeGroote: DeGroote’s emphasis on collaborative leadership and experiential learning stood out for me. Beyond that, my experience with faculty and staff from the application process to date was exceptional. I felt incredibly supported.
What has been your favourite part about the MBA: The relationships! Meeting new people and sharing our varied experiences has been such an eye-opener, which also extends to professional relationships. It’s been great!
What is one quick tip you have for a first-year MBA student: Run your own race and embrace experiences and relationships that are unique to you. Shine your light!
What has been your favourite course at DeGroote, and why: My favourite course so far has been Digital Transformation. It pushed my thinking into uncomfortable and unchartered zones, and the prof made learning fun!
What I wish I knew on Day 1: Time really does fly. Savour every moment. Commit to the things you’re passionate about. Build deep relationships and say “no” more to manage your time and energy better.
