Full-Time MBA with Co-op

Education: BA in Information Studies (University of Ghana).

Co-op Experience: Ricoh Canada Inc. and Danone Canada Inc.

Reason for pursuing an MBA: One of the leading inspirations behind my decision to pursue an MBA was my desire to bring together the diverse professional experiences I’ve accumulated across various sectors, including sales, customer success, project management, and personnel administration. Over time, I realized that while each role taught me valuable skills, I needed a structured and strategic business education to integrate these experiences and position myself for leadership. The MBA offered the perfect platform to refine my managerial mindset, deepen my analytical thinking, and prepare me for a career that combines purpose with impact.

Why DeGroote was chosen: I chose DeGroote for its strong reputation, world-class faculty, and outstanding alumni network, but also because of its unique co-op MBA program, one of the few in Canada. The opportunity to gain hands-on experience in tandem with academic learning was a major draw. Beyond that, DeGroote’s focus on leadership, innovation, and social impact aligned closely with my values and career aspirations.

Favorite MBA experience: My favourite part has been the opportunity to take on leadership roles that have stretched and challenged me in meaningful ways. I currently serve as the Operations Director of the MBA Association, President of the One For The World – DeGroote Chapter, and VP of the African Caribbean Graduate Students Association. These roles have helped me build relationships, drive impact within the McMaster community, and grow as a leader.

Tip for first-year students: Get involved early and intentionally. Your network will be one of the most valuable takeaways from your MBA. Don’t be afraid to step into leadership roles, join clubs, or reach out to upper-year students. Also, be curious—ask questions, learn from different perspectives, and treat every class and project as an opportunity to grow.

Industries of interest: Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Technology.

Club involvement: Operations Management Club, DeGroote Consulting Association, DeGroote MBA for Impact, One For The World (DeGroote Chapter).

Weekend activities: On weekends, I love to unwind through dance or movement-based activities. Dance has always been a form of expression for me—it connects me to my culture and community. I also enjoy exploring new cafes or spending quality time with friends.

Favorite course: P700: Business, Government and the Global Environment was by far my favourite. The course offered a critical look at the intersection between public policy and business strategy. It helped me appreciate the broader context in which companies operate and strengthened my interest in driving innovation within complex, regulated environments.

Fun facts/hobbies: Yes! I’m a seasoned performer and have participated in choreographic productions that celebrate African history and storytelling, including one titled Paper Ship, which I performed at the University of Alberta for Black History Month. I’m passionate about using the arts to inspire social impact and connect cultures.

Favorite book/movie/podcast: One of my favourite books is Start With Why by Simon Sinek. It deeply resonates with my belief that leadership should be rooted in purpose. For podcasts, I enjoy How I Built This—the stories of founders navigating entrepreneurship inspire me as I consider the intersection of business and creative innovation.
