Reason for pursuing an MBA: I decided to pursue an MBA to build on my undergraduate background in economics and develop a broader set of business skills—especially in finance and strategy. I wanted to complement my analytical skills with leadership experience and gain exposure to real-world problem-solving through case competitions and hands-on consulting projects. The MBA has also been an amazing opportunity to expand my network, learn from diverse peers, and grow as a leader within the DeGroote community.
Why DeGroote was chosen: As an Economics graduate, I was eager to connect with others making transitions from diverse backgrounds, and DeGroote felt like the perfect fit. The co-op program stood out for its ability to provide meaningful work experience throughout the MBA journey—something that aligned perfectly with my career goals in the financial industry. What truly confirmed my decision was the supportive learning environment and the welcoming nature of the faculty, staff, and students. DeGroote offered not just the academic foundation I was looking for, but also a community where I could truly grow.
Favorite MBA experience: My favorite part of the MBA journey has been getting involved beyond the classroom. Competing at the MBA Games was an unforgettable experience—it combined school spirit, strategy, and collaboration with students from across the country. Serving as VP of Finance for the DeGroote Consulting Association gave me a chance to take on a leadership role and help shape events that brought real value to our peers. And being part of Motionball for two years has been incredibly rewarding, blending community impact with fun and teamwork. These moments have helped me build lasting friendships while growing both personally and professionally.
Tip for first-year students: Success really depends on how much you put into the program, so having a clear sense of what you want to achieve will help you stay focused and driven. At the same time, be open to trying new things! Some of the most rewarding experiences and connections happen when you step outside your comfort zone and take on something you hadn’t planned.
