Reason for pursuing an MBA: I began my career in the mental health industry, where I gained valuable experience supporting individuals. While the work was meaningful, I realized I was drawn to broader organizational challenges, like strategy, operations, and leadership. I’ve always been interested in how businesses run and how strong leadership can create lasting impact. Pursuing an MBA felt like a natural next step to help me pivot industries, build a solid foundation in business, and prepare for a leadership role where I can drive both people and performance forward.
Why DeGroote was chosen: I chose the DeGroote MBA primarily for its strong emphasis on experiential learning. The opportunity to apply classroom knowledge through co-ops, internships, industry projects, and final capstone really stood out to me. I was looking for a program that would challenge me academically while also giving me practical, hands-on experience and DeGroote stood out. Beyond that, what really sealed the decision was the sense of community. From my first interactions, it was clear that DeGroote fosters a collaborative, supportive environment where students genuinely want each other to succeed.
Favorite MBA experience: First, I’ve genuinely enjoyed the coursework. It’s been intellectually stimulating and has really pushed me to think more strategically. Second, the friendships and connections I’ve built have been incredibly meaningful. Being surrounded by driven, supportive peers has made the journey both fun and inspiring. And lastly, getting introduced to case competitions has been a game-changer. They’ve helped me sharpen my problem-solving skills, think on my feet, and collaborate under pressure, all while learning from real business challenges.
Tip for first-year students: No matter how intimidating it feels or how far outside your comfort zone it seems, say yes to opportunities. This is your time to invest in yourself, academically, professionally, and personally. Be intentional, be bold, and don’t hold back.
